Mt Kilimanjaro-Machame route

Six days/Five nights

Day 1:  Pick up from the hotel at 8.00 AM and drive to the Machame Gate, where you will begin your trek through a spectacular forest area, reaching Machame Camp after 6 or 7 hours. There you will have dinner and overnight (3000M). Meal Plan: L, D

Day 2:  After a short descent, you will begin your trek towards Shira Cathedral.  Continuing on, you will pass by a superb bivi cave, just before arriving at Shira Camp, at 3,840M, where you will have dinner and overnight. Today’s climb is about 5-6 hours. Meal Plan: B, L, D

Day 3:  Trek from Shira camp to Baranco Camp. You will have dinner and overnight at Baranco Camp. Baranco is 3,950 M/ about 11,800 ft). Meal Plan: B, L, D

Day 4:  Trek from Baranco Camp to Barafu Hut (4,600 M, about 14,788 ft) where you will overnight before your ascent to Uhuru Peak. (5896M) NB. You can also spend this night at Lava Tower Camp (4,600 M), but it is a tricky ascent to the top from here and requires an experienced climber and good equipment. Meal Plan: B, L, D

Day 5:  Shortly after midnight, arise and begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5896M). You will then begin your descent to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) stopping at Barafu Camp for Lunch in one hour, where you will have dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D

Day 6:  After completing your descent to Mweka Gate, you will receive your Summit Certificate and transfer back to your hotel. Meal Plan: B, L

Seven Days/Six NightMachame Route

Day 1: Pick up from the hotel at 8.30 AM and drive to Machame Gate, where you will begin your trek through a spectacular forest area, reaching Machame Camp after 6 or 7 hours.  There you will have dinner and overnight at 3,000M. Trek starts about 11:30 by the time we get there and clear the gate formalities. You will arrive at camp about 4:30 PM. Meal Plan: {L,D)

Day 2: After a short descent, you will begin your trek towards Shira Cathedral.  Continuing on, you will pass by a superb bivi cave, just before arriving at Shira Camp, at 3,840M, where you will have dinner and overnight. Today’s climb is about 5-6 hours. Start about 8:30 and trek until about 1:30. Meal Plan: {B, L, D}

Day 3:  Trek from Shira camp to Baranco Camp starting at 8 Am until 1:30 PM.  You will have dinner and   overnight at Baranco Camp. During the day you will climb to 4,200 M (13,650 Ft), then descend to 3,950 M (about 11,850 Ft) at Baranco Camp for overnight. Meal Plan: {B, L, D}

Day 4: Trek from Baranco Camp starting at about 8:30 AM to Karanga Valley, 4,100 M (about 13,325 Ft.) . You will arrive about 11:30 AM.This is a resting day for acclamatization.Meal Plan: {B, L, D}

Day 5:   Beginning about 8:30 AM, trek to Barafu camp, 4,600 M (about 14,788 Ft), arriving about 12:30 PM., where you will remain until your final ascent to the top. You will be awakened at midnight, Meal Plan: {B, L, D}

Day 6:     Shortly after midnight, arise and begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak. You will then begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak, 5,896 M (about 19,620 Ft) about 12:30 AM and arrive at the summit at sunrise, about 7 AM.  You will descend to Mweka Camp 3,100 M. 9-12hours trekk.Meal Plan: {B, L, D}

Day 7:   After completing your descent to Mweka Gate, arriving by about noon. You will receive your Summit Certificate and transfer back to your hotel in your waiting vehicle. Meal Plan: {B, L}

Five Days/Four NightsMarangu Route

Day 1:     Pick up from the hotel at 8.00 AM and drive to Marangu Gate.  After registration clearance, your climb will commence at 1,720 meters to Mandara Hut (2,700 meters) through the rain forest. This will take about 3 hours.  Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut. Meal Plan: (L, D)

Day 2:    After breakfast, you will gradually ascend via Maundi Crater (upper route) to Horombo hut, at 3,720 meters. This climb takes you through open moorland and forest and takes about 4-5 hours.  You will have dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut (Tourist Village). Meal Plan: (B, L, D)

Day 3:     After a good rest, resume your climb.  A bit of the mountain peak can be seen while walking through the alpine forest on the way to Kibo Hut, at 4,703 meters. Kibo Hut, where you will have dinner and overnight is reached after a 5-6 hour walk.  Meal Plan: (B, L, D)

 Day 4:    You will be awakened just after midnight to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). This is a 5-hour walk.  You will then descend back to Kibo hut where waiting porters will join you for your continued descent to Horombo Hut where you will have dinner and overnight.   Meal Plan: (B, L, D)

Day 5:    After breakfast, a simple descent remains to reach the Marangu Gate where you will be awarded your Summit Certificate before transferring to Arusha and back to your hotel. Meal Plan: (B, L).

Six Days/Five Nights – Marangu Route

Day 1:    Pick up from the hotel at 8.00 AM and depart Arusha for the Marangu Gate.  After registration clearance, your climb will commence at 1,720 meters to Mandara Hut (2,700 meters) through the rain forest. This will take about 3 hours. Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut. Meal Plan: L, D

Day 5:     You will be awakened just after midnight to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). This is a 5-hour walk.  You will then descend back to Kibo hut where waiting porters will join you for your continued descent to Horombo Hut where you will have dinner and overnight.  Seven Days/ Six NightsMarangu Route

Day 1:    We will pick you up from the hotel at 0800 and depart for the Marangu Gate.  After registration clearance, your climb will commence at 1,720 meters to Mandara Hut (2,700 meters) through the rain forest. This will take about 3 hours, however it is important to take your time as acclimatization begins from the gate  You will have dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut. Meal Plan: L, D

Day 2:     After breakfast, you will gradually ascend via Maundi Crater (upper route) to Horombo hut, at 3,720 meters. This climb takes you out of the forest and through open moorland and forest and takes about 4-5 hours.  You will have dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut (Tourist Village). Meal Plan: B, L, D

Day 3:    This is an acclimatizing days to hike at higher altitude, perhaps top view Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks during the day, returning to Horombo Hut for meals and overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D

 Day 4:     After a good rest, resume your climb.  A bit of the mountain peak can be seen while walking through the alpine desert on the way to Kibo Hut, at 4,703 meters. Kibo Hut, where you will have dinner and overnight is reached after a 5-6 hour walk.  Meal Plan: B, L, D

Day 5:       You have a second acclimatization day today at Kibo, with a morning hike to Hans Meyer Cave, the half-way point to Gillman’s Point at 5,150 M. Return to Kibo for lunch and resting followed by dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D

Day 6:      You will be awakened just after midnight to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). This is a 5-hour walk.  You will then descend back to Kibo hut  and continue your descent to Horombo Hut where you will have dinner and overnight.   Meal Plan: B, L, D

Day 7:      After breakfast, a simple descent remains to reach the Marangu Gate where you will be awarded your Summit Certificate before transferring back to your accommodation.  Meal Plan: B, L.

Mt. Meru Climb

 Three Days/Two Nights

DAY 1:  We will pick you up from your hotel at 0800 and transfer from Arusha to the Momella Gate to begin your climb to Miriakamba Hut (2,600 M). This is a gentle 3- hour ascent.  On the way you pass through a woodland area where you may see large animals such as giraffe.  You will have dinner and overnight at Miriakamba. Hut. Meal Plan:  L.

 DAY 2: You will have a 3- hour climb to Saddle Hut at 3,600 M., passing through a forest where you may see black and white Colobus monkeys.  At about 3,000 M you will enter a moorland area.  You may even be able to see Kilimanjaro from here.  It is possible to climb Little Meru (3,900 M) if you wish. Meal plan: B, L, D

DAY 3: You will rise very early- after midnight to begin the 4 to 5 hour ascent to the top- (4,566 M) where you will enjoy the sunrise followed by a long walk back to the gate where the vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel. Meal Plan: B, L.

 Four Days/Three nights

 Day 4: This morning you will have a leisurely descent to the gate, followed by lunch and a short game-drive in adjacent Arusha National Park before returning to Arusha and transfer to your hotel for overnight. Meal Plan: (B, L)

Includes

All park, camp and rescue fees, transport between Arusha and gates at start and finish of climb, services of licensed, experienced, English speaking mountain guide, licensed assistant guide for groups of two or more persons, porters, and cook. Three meals a day are provided. We provide a variety of foods to permit varied meals with full breakfasts with foods such as eggs, sausage, toast or pancakes, hot cereal, fruit and juice, tea or coffee. Lunches are sometimes packed and sometimes hot, so will vary. Dinners will have meat dishes of beef, chicken or fish, fresh vegetable dishes, pasta, rice, potatoes, homemade soups, fresh fruits, desserts, juice, tea, coffee. We provide camping gear- tents, mountain mats, sleeping bags and blankets. (You may also use your own if you wish).

Does not include

mineral water for drinking, except for the first day, soft drinks, alcohol or tips for guide and porters.  Personal gear or clothing for the climb is not provided but is available for hire. Accommodation and meals in Arusha not included, pending your choice of type and budget range. We normally offer you your choice according to your preferred standard and budget.

We provide 3L water for the first day only and the balance is taken from the mountain and purified. You can bring purification tablets, a filter system or, if the group is one or two people only, the cook can boil water for you in the evenings.  You should have a torch-a headlamp type is best, extra batteries, warm waterproof pants and jacket, warm clothes to layer, hat that covers your ears or even your face, gloves, warm socks and good climbing boots. Walking sticks are used by most, especially for the descent. Be sure to bring lip balm and sunscreen and sunglasses or goggles. The glare for the snow and ice can cause serious sunburn.

You should only carry a day- pack with your camera, valuables, water, sunscreen, etc.  In budget climbs, 10 kg of personal gear to be carried by porters is the allowed norm. (You need to combine your personal gear for porters to carry into one rucksack between you not exceeding 15kg weight)  If you wish to bring more additional porters are needed, you will be charged for the extra expense.

Oxygen Equipment is available for an additional charge of $60 per group

 TIPPING

Porters: $10 per porter per day. One porter is your cook and usually receives a bit more.

Guides:  $15 per person per day or a group amount

Rental of gear or clothing: $1-3 per item per day. Please specify sizes and also, if climbing boots are required, specify 1 both UK and US sizes if at all possible as we have them both ways.
